Job brief :

As a River Captain, you will be responsible for the safety of the crew, ship, environment and cargo.

Responsibilities :

• Navigation and steering of the vessel: You will be responsible for steering the vessel safely on the river, following the established routes and following the rules of navigation using the charts, nautical instruments and navigation systems onboard;
• Cleaning, Maintenance and Repairs: You will be involved in the maintenance and minor repair of the vessel, checking equipment and systems necessary for navigation and for loading the cargo. General checks of engines, electrical systems, safety equipment and more;
• Cargo handling: You will ensure a correct handling of the cargo and a balanced distribution of the weight within the vessel; - Management of the crew: You will delegate crew members to do certain tasks related the maintenance and loading/discharging operations;
• Available to work in Rotation: 2 weeks on/ 2 weeks off - 3 weeks on/ 3 weeks off - 4 weeks on/ 4 weeks off ;
• Report any issues related the ship and the crew to the office;

Skill's requirements :

Captain sailing license on Inland Rivers; VHF; Radar;

Management skills;

Strong sense of responsibility, thoughtfulness and decision-making skills;

Organized;

Attention to details;

Proactive;

Experience on tanker vessels & ADN certificate is an advantage (for tankers);

Good oral command of the Dutch, German or English language;

Salary :

400-550€/day
